McKellar Hut

The place

Serviced 24-bunk DOC hut in the Greenstone & Caples Conservation Areas (Otago, near Queenstown/Wakatipu), at 640 m. Water and toilets available to both hut guests and campers. Rates until 30 June 2026: NZ$25 adult, NZ$12.50 youth, children free. Backcountry Hut Pass valid 1 May to 30 September only. Online bookings open until 30 June 2027; same-day bookings until 8 pm subject to availability. Phone/visitor centre bookings: NZ$10 service fee. Separate outdoor campsites (bookable) with access to the hut's services.
