Matti Musta autiotupa

The place

A small Metsähallitus autiotupa in Lemmenjoki National Park, on the southeastern shore of Lake Ylimmäinen Lankojärvi near the park's northeastern boundary (Inari, Lapland). The building was constructed between 1903 and 1905, where Matti Musta lived with his family year-round until 1917. Metsähallitus converted it into an autiotupa in 1994. Capacity for 3, a wood stove (kamina) for heating; no indoor fireplace, no gas, no sauna, no water, no toilets. Important: reclassified as a heritage attraction (nähtävyyskohde) from 2026 onward — the site is now preserved primarily as a valuable cultural landscape rather than as an operational shelter.
