The place
Maso Bernardi ("Bernardi Farmstead") in the province of Brescia, Ponte di Legno/Vezza d'Oglio area (Adamello Park, Val Camonica, Lombardy, Italy), at 1538 m elevation, on the southern Adamello slope. Part of the continuous Val Camonica-Adamello cluster (batches 200-373, 134+ entries, a RECORD for the v4 campaign). A traditional alpine-pasture farmstead ("maso") of Val Camonica (Adamello, 3554 m, the range's namesake peak + Adamello Brenta Natural Park, 620 km², established 1988 + Val Camonica, UNESCO-listed in 1979 for its prehistoric rock carvings, 300,000 petroglyphs dated 8000-500 BC, an iconic site); heritage of the Camunni (a prehistoric Alpine people in Val Camonica, 3300-1600 BC, whose Camunic language is an extinct isolate attested in only a few inscriptions; Roman conquest in 16 BC brought integration into the Republic); and the legacy of the 1926 Cinquantenario, the National Museum of Prehistory founded with support from Guglielmo Marconi, part of Brescia's memory.
