The place

Free-access autiotupa built in 2002 from logs, along the Martimo-oja stream, in the Martimoaapa peatland nature reserve (Southern Lapland, Finland). Building designed and built by Seppo Mikkola (Metsähallitus team leader) on the site of a former meadow sauna belonging to the Miettunen family (19th century), which burned down in 1998. Toilet, woodshed and outdoor fireplace on site.

Getting there

Difficult to access during snowmelt. Reachable by ski, about 5-6 km from Hangassalmenaho or 7-8 km from the Hömmönkoski hut.
