The place

Rifugio Marco e Rosa De Marchi - Agostino Rocca at 3610 m, at the Forcola di Cresta Guzza in the Bernina massif (Valmalenco, municipality of Lanzada, province of Sondrio, Lombardy). The highest accommodation in Lombardy. The first building was built in 1913 on the initiative and funding of the couple Marco De Marchi and Rosa Curioni; it now serves as an emergency and winter shelter. A new refuge was built in summer 2003 a few meters higher up (3609 m), with 137 m² of floor space, capacity for 48 beds. Open in April and May for ski touring, then from 1 July to 20 September for the summer season; also open in spring for the off-piste ski season. The highest satellite internet station in Lombardy. A key stage for the ascent of the Piz Bernina (4049 m) via the Italian normal route.
