DOC 'Standard' category hut at 773 m in the heart of the beech forest of Whirinaki Te Pua-a-Tāne Conservation Park (East Coast / Hawke's Bay, North Island, New Zealand — not Te Urewera). 9 bunks, heating, mattresses, dry toilets, tap water (untreated, boil before drinking). No booking (first come, first served). Positioned halfway between Rogers Hut and Central Te Hoe Hut — often used as a lunch stop. Very popular with hunters. Charges: 1 Standard Hut Ticket (blue adult, yellow youth) per night in the honesty box, or an annual Backcountry Hut Pass (6 or 12 months).
