Malga Scanaiol
The place
Mountain malga at 1745-1765 m (the inscription on the walls varies) at the foot of Cima Scanaiol, in the heart of the Paneveggio Pale di San Martino Nature Park (eastern Trentino). Lake Calaita (1600 m, a lake of natural origin) nearby, in the Valle del Vanoi. A flagship stage of the "Trekking Panoramic Scanaiol" and the Giro delle Creste, with a spectacular viewpoint over the Pale di San Martino. Access from the Miralago Calaita restaurant via the forest track (trail 350-16) then trail 9 — about 1 hour from the lake, 200 m elevation gain. A typical stopover on the great Dolomite routes of Primiero. Site defended by the SAT against any project to build a new forest road linking Malga Crel to Malga Scanaiol, to preserve the park's ecological value.
