The place

Alpine refuge built in 1887 by the Magdeburg section of the DÖAV (German Alpine Club) at 2,423 metres elevation, near the della Stua lakes facing the Vedretta di Montarso and Monte della Neve in Val di Fleres (South Tyrol / Alto Adige, province of Bolzano, Italy). Today owned by the CAI Vipiteno (Sterzing) section. Fifty-five beds. Modernised in the early 1980s with characteristic wood-shingle cladding. Access from Sasso di Dentro in Val di Fleres in about 3 h 30 via CAI trail no. 6. A base for routes in the Stubai Alps. Booking recommended through CAI Vipiteno.
