Magdalen Hut

The place

Standard 5-bunk DOC hut in the St James Conservation Area (Canterbury, Arthur's Pass area), at 746 m. 11.5 km (4-hour walk) from the Boyle River Outdoor Education Centre, which has parking and shuttle services. Trail in good condition, wide and easy to follow; the St James Walkway follows the valley through pasture, beech forest and subalpine terrain. A stage of the Te Araroa Trail. Dogs prohibited. No booking, payment by hut tickets or Backcountry Hut Pass (NZD 10/5 until 30 June 2026).
