The place

Basic 4-bunk DOC hut in the Takitimu Conservation Area (Southland), at 479 m, on the Te Araroa Trail. Free (Te Araroa walkers pay their Trail Pass separately). Important: access from Ohai to Lower Wairaki Hut only via Beaumont Station (+64 3 931 9858) — permission required.
