Lower Goulter Hut

The place

Standard hut with 8 bunks in Mount Richmond Forest Park (southern Marlborough), at 383 m, dating from the 1960s. Access via the Goulter Road end: 3 h 30 (14 km on foot); 4WD road end: 45 min (2 km). Parking before Patriarch Station or 2 km further along Goulter Road. No booking, payment by hut tickets or Backcountry Hut Pass (NZ$10/5 until June 30 2026). **Important**: the hut has a history of flash flooding during extreme weather events — avoid staying there when storms are forecast. Marlborough Sounds roads recently damaged, check with the Marlborough District Council before departure.
