Lötschenpasshütte
The place
The Lötschenpasshütte is a staffed hut of the Swiss Alpine Club, set at 2690 m on the historic Lötschenpass, at the transition between the Bernese Oberland and Valais. It can host up to 80 people and was rebuilt to Minergie standards in 2007-2008, becoming the first self-sufficient, Minergie-certified alpine hut. The hosting team is well known for its professionalism and warmth. The site is a major waypoint on the great traverses between Kandersteg and the Lötschental, and gives access to several climbing and ski-touring routes on the surrounding glaciers.

Access from Kandersteg via the Gasterntal, or from the Lötschental via the Lauchernalp.

A bit of history
Le col du Lötschenpass (Alpes bernoises, frontière entre les cantons de Berne et du Valais) est fréquenté depuis le Moyen Âge comme sentier muletier, avec un premier abri attesté dès 1519. Deux anciennes baraques militaires y furent déplacées en 1946-1947, avant la mise en service du refuge actuel en 1955. Reconstruit et agrandi en 2008-2009 aux normes Minergie, il est présenté comme le premier refuge alpin énergétiquement autonome selon ce standard.
