Loserhütte: A Gem of the Alps with Lodging and Restaurant The Loserhütte is a mountain hut belonging to the Ausseerland section of the Austrian Alpine Club, located in the Totes Gebirge massif in the Styrian Salzkammergut in Austria. Location and Landscape The Loserhütte sits at an elevation of 1498 m above sea level, on the south slope of the Loser massif above Altaussee (727 m) and Lake Altaussee. It is located just below the Hochanger (1838 m) and offers a stunning view over the entire Ausseerland region. History The hut was built in 1882 by the Bad Aussee section of the DuOeAV. It was already a popular destination in the early days of summer holidaymaking. From 1954 to 1958, the hut was extended. In 1970-1975, the Loser road was built, and the small ski area subsequently developed. Since then, the Loserhütte has sat slightly below the Hochanger mid-station. In 1986, the Loserhütte was modernized again. Hiking and Winter Sports Access From Altaussee (719 m) in about 2 hours The hut is accessible by car via the scenic Loser road from Altaussee, which passes through Ramsau an der Augstalm and the Loserhütte before finally reaching the Loseralm at Lake Augst. The road is a toll road. Ascents Loser (1837 m) in about 1 hour Hochanger (1838 m) in about 1 hour Bräuningzinken (1899 m) in about 1.5 hours Routes The hut lies on the Nordalpenweg (Austrian long-distance trail 01 from Lake Neusiedl to Lake Constance). to the Albert-Appel-Haus (1638 m) via the Karl-Stöger-Steig in about 5 hours to the Wildenseehütte (1525 m) in about 4 hours to the Pühringerhütte (1637 m) in about 8 hours Lifts From the Ramsau ski area, the Loser-Jet chairlift leads to the Augst alp; after a short descent you reach the second Loser chairlift, and above the Loserhütte begins the Loserfenster chairlift leading slightly east of the Hochanger summit to the Loserfenster.
