Longview Hut

The place

12-bunk serviced DOC hut in Ruahine Forest Park (Hawke's Bay), at 1,200 m elevation, just above the treeline but below the ridge. **Built in 1979 by the Napier branch of the NZ Deerstalkers Association and renovated in March 2025.** Platform bunks with mattresses, wood burner with firewood supplied, cold water from a rainwater tank. Access: ~100 km from Napier or Palmerston North via SH 50, Makaretu Road, Mill Road, Kashmir Road to the car park; 2-3 hours' walk (3.2 km) via Longview Hut Track. 4x4 or AWD recommended for Kashmir Road (steep grade). Rates (until 30 June 2026): NZ$25 adult/night, NZ$12.50 youth (5-17), free under 4, via Serviced Hut Ticket (green) honesty box or Backcountry Hut Pass.
