The place

Long Burn Hut in the Lake Wakatipu area, Otago (South Island, New Zealand), at 359 m elevation, in the northern foothills of Queenstown/Frankton. Part of the continuous Otago cluster (batches 181-235). A DOC hut or historic musterers' hut converted into an open shelter, set in the steppe-like tussock (Chionochloa) and matagouri (Discaria toumatou) landscape typical of Central Otago. Close to the Skippers Canyon gold-rush heritage area.
