Lomismta Shelter
The place
Lomis Mta hikers' shelter set at 1780 m in Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park (Samtskhe-Javakheti and Imereti, Georgia), away from the summit of Lomismta (2198 m). The building has a wood stove for winter ascents in snow-covered mountains. Beds without mattresses — advance booking required when registering at the park entrance. Water point nearby. Hiking trails lead to the summit of Lomismta, where the Church of St. George stands (Wiki Loma) — a historic Georgian pilgrimage site. Beautiful rhododendron blooms from May to June. A horse can be hired to reach the shelter (about 6 hours on horseback from the park entrance). Borjomi-Kharagauli Park is one of the largest in Europe (76,000 ha), home to brown bear, lynx, roe deer and the Caucasian wild goat.
