Leon Kinvig Hut

The place

Standard hut with eight bunks managed by the Department of Conservation (DOC) in Ruahine Forest Park, Manawatu/Whanganui region (North Island, New Zealand), at 820 m elevation. Hut rehabilitated by the Back Country Trust in 2024 after being swept off its piles during Cyclone Gabrielle. Structure relocated 600 meters downstream, with new foundations, windows, cladding, deck and fittings completed between April 2024 and June 2025. River water, wood-stove heating (occasional water ingress through the chimney), platform beds. Rates until 30 June 2026: NZD 10/night adult, NZD 5 youth (5-17), free under 5. No booking, payment by Standard Hut Ticket or Backcountry Hut Pass.
