The place

Free Metsähallitus autiotupa, formerly named Asumajoen autiotupa, on the south bank of the Asumajoki river, near the south-east corner of the Koivusuo nature reserve and the border zone to the east, on waters draining into the Koitajoki (North Karelia). Originally a logging cabin where workers marked trees for felling before forestry operations; renovated and converted into an autiotupa in 1999. Access from the Polvikoski car park via the Kivikkosuon shelter or the Asumajoki shelter (about 5 km either way), or directly by car. Free stop without reservation under the autiotupat system.
