The place
Lehtosaaren autiotupa is a modest wilderness hut, open all year and free for self-sufficient hikers (1-2 nights, no booking). Located on Lehtosaari island in Lake Lentua, near Kuhmo in Kainuu (Finland). Two rooms, originally built as a fishing lodge. Includes a lakeside sauna (smoke sauna converted to continuous heating in 2017, shelter renovated and cleaned at the same time). A gem among the stops along the canoe routes that follow the old tar roads. Not to be confused with other Lehtosaari autiotupa huts in the Metsähallitus network (e.g. Lemmenjoki).
