The place

Refuge du Piolet is a shelter at 70 m elevation (DB figure of 215 is erroneous) overlooking the Calanque d'En Vau, on the ridges toward the Calanque de Port Pin, in the Calanques National Park (Bouches-du-Rhône). Fitted with a terrace, designed for 6 people. Converted into a German military battery during the Second World War. Repeatedly vandalized and then restored, it is still standing but is no longer intended to host hikers overnight: sleeping there has been prohibited since the creation of the Calanques National Park in April 2012.
