The place

The Lauteraarhütte is a Swiss Alpine Club hut, Zofingen section, located at 2393 m altitude on a rocky spur overlooking the Unteraargletscher, in the Grimsel area (Bernese Alps, municipality of Guttannen). It serves as a base for high-altitude climbs and long high-mountain hikes. 28 beds in dormitories (3 rooms) in summer, plus 12 additional places in the winter room. Staffed season from late June to mid-September. The Zofingen section took over the original building in 1882; the current hut was built in 1931 on the same site and retains the look of that era. Access by postbus to the Grimsel Pass (Hospiz or Summerloch stop), then a long glacier crossing.
