The place

DOC "serviced" hut at the head of Lake Rotoiti in the Travers Valley, Nelson Lakes National Park (Nelson/Tasman, NZ), at 630 m. Platform bunks with mattresses, cold rainwater, wood burner with wood supplied (Oct-April). Outdoor camping sites. Access: 3 hr from St Arnaud via the Lakehead Track, or water taxi from the St Arnaud jetty (15 min walk to the hut). Family-friendly. Rates: adults $25/night, youth $12.50, free under 5; camping $10/5/0. Walk to the Travers swing bridge (2 hr round trip) or fish the lake and river. Online booking. Lindavia algae present: dry equipment for 48 hr before contact with water.
