The place

Standard eight-bunk hut managed by the Department of Conservation (DOC) in Kahurangi National Park, Nelson/Tasman region (South Island, New Zealand), at 400 meters elevation on the shore of Lake Matiri. Access via the upper Matiri Valley and 1000 Acre Plateau tracks. Rates until June 30, 2026: NZD 10/night adult, NZD 5 youth (5-17 years), free under 5. No booking required, payment by Standard Hut Ticket deposited in the honesty box or by annual Backcountry Hut Pass.
