Lake Alexander Hut

The place

Standard DOC hut with 6 bunks in Ferny Gair Conservation Area (southern Marlborough), at 644 m. Building from the early 1960s, renovated in 2010. Access via the Avon Valley through private property — prior authorization required from Bernard Mason (+64 21 181 2281). 4x4 route of 6 km across the property, then 2h30 walk along the Tummil River on a marked trail. Access seasonally closed for farming activities. No booking, payment by hut tickets or Backcountry Hut Pass (NZ$10/5 until 30 June 2026).
