The place

Large DOC "Serviced" category hut at 48 m on the Hollyford Track, deep in Fiordland National Park (Southland, South Island, New Zealand). 26 bunks, heating, mattresses, dry toilets, tap water (untreated, boil before use). Located about 15 minutes beyond Pyke River Lodge (run by Hollyford Track Guided Walks). No booking required, but bookings are open until June 30, 2027 — if there's no availability online for your dates, the hut is full and no space is held for walk-ins. The Hollyford Track is a 4- to 8-day "mountains to the sea" crossing to Martins Bay, starting from the rock faces of the Darran Mountains and following the Hollyford River.
