The place
Small A-frame bivvy at 1148 m in the Craigieburn Forest Park (North Canterbury / Arthur's Pass, South Island, New Zealand). Only two bunks, very basic structure, first come first served, free, no booking. Important: no mattresses — bring your own sleeping mat (only the neighbouring Lagoon Saddle Hut, less than 50 m away, provides them). A stage on the Cass-Lagoon Saddle Track, a recommended 2-3 day crossing, advanced to expert level. Access via SH73 about 14 km east of Arthur's Pass village, then Cora Lynn Road. Beyond the saddle, a descent through sparse forest leads to the two huts.
