Lagerwald Hütte (Le Gresson)
The place
Log-cabin-style hut (stacked timber) at 960 m in the Doller valley (Hautes-Vosges, Haut-Rhin), before reaching the hamlet of Le Gresson. One of 10 log cabins built in the 2000s in the valley. Large structure of massive logs, a stately entrance with a small balcony acting as an airlock, a large stove for winter heating and cooking, two sturdy tables in the corners with benches, outdoor barbecue. Access from the Oberbruck station car park via the blue-cross-marked trail, then the path to the left before the barrier (1 km), then the path to the right and a steep trail for 200 m. Water available at the nearby Ferme-Auberge du Gresson (30 min round trip maximum). Freely accessible year-round, on foot only.

La cabane se trouve sur un versant pentu, à environ 680 m de la Ferme-Auberge du Gresson, à 960 m d'altitude.
The setting
Une forêt dense se trouve à moins de 100 m, mais aucun point d'eau n'est disponible sur place : il faut aller la chercher au robinet de la ferme-auberge voisine, ce qui représente environ 30 minutes aller-retour.
A bit of history
Malgré une consonance germanique qui pourrait le laisser penser, le nom de cette cabane n'a aucun lien avec l'occupation allemande. Elle appartient aux « Chalets de la Doller », un ensemble de dix cabanes en madriers bâties entre 1998 et environ 2002, à l'initiative du Club Vosgien de Masevaux et du SIVOM local, sur une idée de Jean Koell concrétisée par Roger Gaugler. « Lagerwald » est en réalité un toponyme alsacien-germanique désignant le lieu-dit, sur la commune d'Oberbruck, et non une référence militaire.
