The place
Refuge de La Martin: Mountain Charm and Tradition Refuge de La Martin, built in 1934, is a haven of peace located in the Savoie department, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Staffed by Julia and Pascal, this hut offers a capacity of 32 people. Services and Comfort Half-board, breakfast, packed lunch, drinks and a small shop available. Shared dormitory with beds and duvets, tables and chairs, photovoltaic lighting, wood stove, and gas. Opening Period and Access Staffed from 15 June to 15 September. Access via several paths, including from the hamlet of La Gurraz in Villaroger (1h45 climb), Tignes - Les Brévières (2h climb), Tignes - Les Boisses (2h climb), and Tignes - Le Lac (2h15 climb). Mountaineering and Hiking Activities Main ascents: Dôme de la Sache, the Dôme de la Sache - Mont Pourri - Mont Turia traverse with descent to the Refuge de Turia or the Les Arcs resort. Trails leading to the Lac de Tignes, the Savinaz glacier, Brévières, and La Gurraz. Cost, Funding and Bookings Original construction cost unknown. Managed by the Vanoise National Park. 4 itinéraires balisés, tous accessibles en famille (aucun passage technique) : (1) Depuis La Gurraz (parking du Chantel, 1610m) : 1h45 montée / 1h descente, 7,5 km, +550 m. (2) Depuis Tignes-Les Boisses : 2h montée / 1h30 descente, 11 km, +580 m, sentier en balcon. (3) Depuis Tignes-Les Brévières : 2h-2h15 montée / 1h-1h15 descente, 7 km, +610 m, forêt de mélèzes et cascades. (4) Depuis Tignes-Le Lac : 2h30-3h aller-retour, 17 km, +590 m, sentier en balcon. Altitude d'arrivée : 2157 m.
The setting
Refuge niché dans un alpage au pied du Dôme de la Sache, à 2157 m d'altitude, au cœur du Parc national de la Vanoise. Vue sur les glaciers de la Martin et de la Savinaz, sur le lac du Chevril et sur le massif du Mont-Blanc. Ancien chalet d'alpage (plus de 90 ans), à la charnière entre alpage traditionnel et haute montagne ; présence de faune sauvage (étagnes notamment).
