Refuge La Marocaine: A Small Forest Gem The Refuge La Marocaine, built in 1963, is a picturesque refuge in the heart of the forest of the Commune de l'Abbaye. This rustic refuge offers a table and benches for visitors seeking temporary shelter. History and Inspiration The history of this refuge is linked to the exotic journey of the woodcutter Henri Conus to Morocco several decades ago. Inspired by the beauty of the country and the generosity of its people, he decided to name this refuge La Marocaine in tribute to his enchanting stay. Conditions and Use Although originally intended for forestry workers, this refuge is now open to walkers, under certain conditions: 1. Occupancy limited to one day 2. No overnight stays allowed 3. Space to be shared with other visitors if necessary 4. No reservations possible 5. Fires may only be lit in the stove and using wood available in the surrounding area 6. Complete cleaning of the refuge before leaving and taking personal waste with you 7. Compliance with the rules set by the Municipality to prevent any misuse. Access and Location To reach the Refuge La Marocaine, follow the chemin des Mines from Le Solliat to la Capitaine, then continue to the refuge in the heart of the forest of the Commune de l'Abbaye. Getting there
Depuis le lieu-dit Le Solliat, on continue jusqu'au Capitaine puis on suit le chemin des Mines pour atteindre l'abri.
The setting
L'abri se situe dans le massif du Jura vaudois, au sein du Parc naturel régional du Jura vaudois, en pleine forêt du Risoud (commune de L'Abbaye, district du Jura-Nord vaudois). La forêt est immédiatement présente autour du bâtiment, mais aucun point d'eau n'est signalé dans un rayon de 100 mètres.
A bit of history
Cet abri a été construit en 1963. Son nom viendrait d'un forestier local qui aurait baptisé la cabane en souvenir d'un séjour marquant effectué au Maroc avant de revenir travailler dans la forêt du Risoud.
A word from the warden
Aucun gardiennage n'est assuré ; l'usage est limité à la journée, les nuitées étant proscrites sauf urgence, et les visiteurs doivent laisser les lieux propres en repartant avec leurs déchets.
