La Cesa
The place
A forest rifugio set on a beautiful high plateau at 1105 m, in the area between Caramanico Terme and San Nicolao, at the heart of the Maiella National Park (Abruzzo). Building belonging to the Carabinieri Forestali, near the Rava Cupa spring, in a pastoral hollow typical of the western Maiella. Access via a paved road from Guado Sant'Antonio; also reachable via the trails of the picturesque Valle dell'Orfento. The refuge is locked: you must register for free at the Visitor Centre of the Valle dell'Orfento in Caramanico Terme before any outing in the area. A useful staging point for routes across the central Maiella and ascents toward Monte Amaro.
