The place

Unstaffed cabin at 1266 m in the Parc naturel régional du Jura vaudois (canton of Vaud, Switzerland). The name ironically evokes the United Nations — a humorously named building, typical of refuges in the Vaud Jura (other nearby examples: Refuge Kennedy, Le Négus, La Sauvageonne). A basic, freely accessible building, equipped with firewood, candles and an outdoor fire grate. Guestbook left on site by visitors. Forested setting typical of the PNR Jura vaudois: beech-fir woods, wooded pastures (characteristic of the Jura, emblematic cultural landscapes listed among Swiss natural biotopes), isolated spruce trees on the meadows. Emblematic wildlife: Jura chamois, Eurasian lynx (reintroduced in the 1980s), capercaillie, roe deer, red squirrel. A stop on the Nordic ski routes of the Vaud Jura, looping through the Le Chenit / La Givrine area, near other cabins in the network (Les Fougères 1378 m, Le Négus 1345 m, La Christine 1285 m).
