The place

A pair of DNT cabins at the southeastern end of Kaldvatnet, on the E1 transeuropean route and the Nordlandsruta. A total of 16 beds spread across the two buildings and an annex, DNT key-locked. Unstaffed cabin open year-round: visitors handle their own meals, cleaning and water fetching. Wood heating, gas cooking, solar-panel lighting. Equipped kitchen and bedding on site. Dogs allowed only in the old emergency cabin. Well placed for hiking and ski touring: summer access via the Kallvatnet trail from Østerdal, winter access by snowmobile or via Swedish routes.
