The place

A wilderness cabin at 1260 m in the municipality of Ullensvang (Vestland, Norway), near the summit of Stridfallsnuten in the western part of the Folgefonna massif. Built of stone and wood, it serves as a route shelter in the Hardanger backcountry, at the junction of routes linking the DNT hyttes of Folgefonna (Holmaskjer, Fonnabu, Breidablikk, Sauarbrehytta) and the small summer trails of the fjord. Unstaffed, gear and fuel must be brought; typically used by spring ski tourers and summer walkers, in a setting of open high plateaus characteristic of the south-western Hardanger fjord.
