Free Metsähallitus autiotupa on the north bank of the Kurtojoki river in the Muotkatunturi Wilderness Area (Inari municipality, northern Lapland) — considered "the wildest of the wilderness areas" in Finland. Capacity of 6 beds, a standard log cabin with a stove (kamina recently renewed) and a gas cooker. Kurtojoki tulipaikka outdoor fireplace, woodshed, and Kurtojoki kuivakäymälä dry toilet nearby. A discreet cabin at the heart of reindeer country, with few marked trails — self-sufficient navigation is essential. Free stopover, no reservation required, under the autiotupat regime.
