The place
Autiotupa and varaustupa run by Metsähallitus (Luontopalvelut) in the Käsivarsi wilderness area (Käsivarren erämaa-alue, Enontekiö municipality, Lapland), on an open fjäll about 20 km on foot or by ski from Kilpisjärvi. Coordinates: 69°06.1135'N 21°13.1467'E. The building has two sides: autiotupa (free, open side, 1-2 nights without reservation) and varaustupa (paid, bookable side, 1-2 nights). Amenities: fireplace and firewood for heating, gas stove, basic utensils (pot, pan, coffee pot). No running water — natural water sources must be boiled.
A bit of history
Ensemble de deux cabanes (Kuonjarjohkan autiotuvat) : ancienne cabane construite en 1969, nouvelle cabane construite en 2000. Une vingtaine d'autiotupas existent dans la zone Käsivarsi.
