The place

Krokan Turisthytte is the first tourist cabin acquired by the DNT after its founding in 1868, considered the first historic DNT cabin. Located in Tinn, Upper Telemark (Norway), at 737 meters altitude near Rjukan and Tuddal, with views over Vemork towards Gaustatoppen and Rjukan. Today owned by the Norwegian Workers' Museum (NIA) and protected by the Directorate for Cultural Heritage (Riksantikvaren). Two charming log cabins rented as unstaffed DNT cabins: each has one room with four bunk-bed sleeping spots, for eight places in total. Situated right by the Rjukan waterfall (Rjukanfossen), one of the great European natural attractions of its time. Advance booking required via the DNT system.
