The place

A basic 6-bunk DOC hut at 259 m in the Waitaha Valley (West Coast, Hokitika area). Free, open access. The approach track is no longer actively maintained by DOC: occasional clearing by the Permolat association; route-finding and technical skills recommended. Do not cross a river in flood or at unsafe entry and exit points; check the NIWA forecast. Further information on the Remote Huts website. Map BW17.
