The place
King Mountain Hut in Lake Superior Provincial Park, Sault Ste. Marie/Wawa area (Algoma District, Ontario, Canada), at 551 m of altitude, on the north shore of Lake Superior (the world's largest freshwater lake by surface area, 82,000 km²). Part of the continuous Canada/Ontario/Great Lakes cluster (batches 200-342). A rustic Ontario Parks cabin (Coastal Trail, 65 km rustic backpacking on the north shore of Superior; named "King Mountain" after the 373 m hill overlooking Sable Falls), in an area of boreal white-cedar/balsam-fir forest (Thuja occidentalis) and home to the Agawa Rock pictographs (Ojibwe pictographs from 400-1000 AD depicting geometric figures and mishipeshu, the water-monster guardian of Lake Superior), part of the heritage of the Ojibwe/Anishinaabe (Batchewana, the first of 3 reserves in the region, with 700 traditionally entitled hunters).
