The place
DAV refuge at 1432 m on the Kelchalm, municipality of Aurach (Tyrol, Austria), in the heart of the Kitzbüheler Alps. Owned by the DAV Bochum section. 50 beds in 15 rooms, spacious welcoming common rooms, sunny terrace and good food. Alpenverein category I. History: lodging for miners was built here as early as 1832 during copper mining on the Kelchalm. Mining stopped in 1926. A year later (1927), the AV Kitzbühel section bought the building and in 1928 dedicated it as a Schutzhaus for hikers. In 1964, the Kelchalm changed hands and has since been run by the DAV Sektion Bochum. Excellent starting point for easy or demanding hikes, ski touring in winter and a sled run down to the valley.
