The place

Free Metsähallitus autiotupa in one of the largest old-growth forest reserves in the municipality of Juuka, North Karelia (Pohjois-Karjala). Capacity 2 bunks, kitchen, toilets, firewood provided, indoor hearth/fireplace. Hiking trail along the Keihäsjoki river, about 5 km, crosses ridge terrain and peaty ravines, with side trails to nearby ponds. Free stopover, no booking, under the standard autiotupa system.
