Kawhatau Base in Ruahine Forest Park, Waiouru/Taihape area (Manawatū-Whanganui, North Island, New Zealand), at 699 m elevation. Continuous Central North Island NZ cluster (batches 231-301). Historic tramper/musterer base in the Ruahine range (a range of primary Nothofagus beech forest, "black beech"), heritage of the Ngāti Whatua-o-Kaipara (a Māori iwi of the Waikato) and of sheep farming since 1870s European settlers.
