The place

Metsähallitus day hut on the shore of Lake Kaunislampi, a 198-hectare rocky gorge classified as aarnialue (a strict forest reserve) on the western edge of Syöte National Park (Pudasjärvi, Pohjois-Pohjanmaa). About 35 km north of the Syöte Nature Centre by road. A day cabin with an indoor fireplace; dry toilets (liiteri) a few metres away. Located 3.8 km from the trailhead on the 6.4 km "Kaunislammen kierros" loop: a cosy stop for a picnic or a break between two legs of the trail. No overnight stays.
