The place

Private Mt Egmont Alpine Club lodge located at about 1400 m on the slopes of Fanthams Peak (Egmont/Taranaki National Park), about an hour's walk from Dawson Falls via the Summit Track. Capacity for nineteen people: sixteen in the main dormitory on platforms, three in a small secondary dormitory. Locked building: pick up the key from the Lodge Booking Officer (Al Barkla, 027 618 9002). Facilities: LPG gas cooking, wood-and-coal fireplace, solar lighting, dishes and utensils provided. Rate: NZD 10 per adult member (NZD 5 child ≤12 years), NZD 25 non-member (NZD 15 child). NZD 50 penalty for a lost key. Opened November 9, 1952 after five years of construction, major renovation 1996-2002 (roof, interior, solar).
