Kansteinhütte
The place
Self-managed refuge of the Deutscher Alpenverein Hannover section, built more than fifty years ago by local climbers at the foot of the limestone cliffs of the Thüster Berg, in the Weserbergland (Lower Saxony). A prime location as a base camp for the climbing routes of the Kansteine — forty-one dolomite rock formations on the north face, offering cool shade much appreciated in hot weather — and for the routes of the Ith and nearby quarries. The hut can be booked at Burgstraße 24, 31020 Salzhemmendorf. A convenient stop too for hikers on the Ith-Hils-Weg trail, one of the main Qualitätswege of the Weserbergland.
