Kalmakaltio Open Wilderness Hut
The place
Modest free cabin (autiotupa) managed by Metsähallitus at the mouth of the Kalmakaltionoja stream where it flows into the Käkkälöjoki, on the north-west slope of Kieritunturi, Enontekiö municipality, Käsivarren erämaa (Finnish Lapland). Called Galbmagáldu in Sami. Six sleeping places, a hearth for heating; no drinking water (surface water must be filtered/boiled). Free lodging, shared, first-come first-served, stays limited to one or two nights per autiotupa rules. Open year-round.
