The place

Standard-category DOC hut with six bunks located at 514 m in the Waioweka Conservation Area (East Coast). 5 minutes from the Kahunui Stream, on a side track branching off the Koranga Tawa loop. About 3 h 30 from Tawa Hut; the route involves river crossings and travel along stream banks. Rate NZD 10 per adult per night, NZD 5 for ages 5-17, free below that, payable via standard tickets or an annual Backcountry Hut Pass. No booking.
