Kahui Hut

The place

Basic hut managed by the Department of Conservation (DOC) on the western slopes of Taranaki Maunga (Te Papa-Kura-o-Taranaki, North Island, New Zealand), at 888 metres altitude. About a 6-hour return trip via the Kahui Track or the Puniho Track, or as a loop via the Around the Mountain Circuit. Basic facilities: cold running water from a rainwater tank, nearby toilet. No heating. Rates until June 2026: NZ$10/night adult, NZ$5 youth (5-17 years), free under 5. No bookings, payment by hut ticket bought in advance and deposited in the honesty box, or by annual Backcountry Hut Pass.
