Getting there
Access via CAI trail 179 from Foce di Cardeto via quarry 27. Also accessible in 15 min from Rifugio Orto di Donna via trail 179. 6 places + wood stove. Managed by CAI Carrara (caicarrara.it).
The setting
Apuan Alps, Val Serenaia, Orto di Donna (municipality of Minucciano, province of Lucca, Tuscany). Beech forests at the foot of Monte Contrario (1746 m), near Passo delle Pecore (1575 m). Apuan cluster with Rifugio Alleluia batch 32.
A bit of history
Built in 1968 by the "K2 club" association and given to CAI Carrara in 1988. Named in homage to the Italian expedition to K2 of 31 July 1954 (first ascent of the world's second-highest mountain).
