Getting there

Access from the Middle Arm of Lake Te Anau. Protected takahē area: Department of Conservation permit mandatory between December and February. NZTopo50 coordinates CA13: E1167503, N4985534. Standard DOC rate: NZ$15/night adult, NZ$7.50 youth aged 5-17, free ages 0-4. Annual Backcountry Hut Pass accepted.

The setting

Fiordland National Park, western sector. Didymo is present in Lake Te Anau and the Eglinton River but not in the Junction Burn, the Doon River or Lake Hankinson — do not transfer water there in order to protect these areas.
