Jubilee Hut
The place
Jubilee Hut is a popular DOC hut at about 425 m elevation in the Silverpeaks Scenic Reserve, just 30 minutes from downtown Dunedin (Otago, South Island, New Zealand). Capacity 10 bunks. The original hut was built in 1948 for the 25th anniversary of the Otago Tramping and Mountaineering Club; the current hut opened in 2007. A 4-hour tramp from Mountain Rd near Waitati. Very popular on weekends (600 booked nights since November according to the DOC 2020-21 report). A quality hut, well sun-exposed, with a pleasant view. The Silverpeaks remain wild backcountry with fickle weather and exposed ridgelines: suitable gear and weather planning are needed.
